Gearing Up
This is going to be a very brief gear post. As an engineer who has spent the last three years specifying mechanical equipment, I am really holding myself back by not diving deep into the specs of the gear that I am currently carrying, but I want to get on the road so I am going to leave you with my gear list that I put together as well as some pictures just to prove that you don't need a massive diesel pickup truck to make this trip a reality (although the diesel's a cool thing to have).
So here is my list in Excel format, and here is the pdf version. Items that I thought I could use in the future, but decided not to get for this trip, are crossed out.
Once I have completed the trip, I will do a post game analysis of the gear and how it performed. Two items I would like to draw special attention to that have very unique dual purposes are:
1.) Cotton ball lathered in petroleum jelly - will burn for 4.5 minutes as a waterproof firestarter AND functions as chaffing relief aid.
2.) iPhone - normally I leave my phone at the trailhead but this trip I am utilizing the Gaia GPS app with pre-downloaded maps of where I'm hunting and waypoints I have already identified. Will also function as notebook and camera/video.
Pictured below (click left/right on image) are - final pack configuration (including homemade shoddy bow carrier), clothing, final clothing pack volume, trip vehicle with carrier rack and backseat gear volume. All-in-all my pack will weigh 50 lbs when I walk into the woods.
