How to Pay Only $20 for the Best GPS Ever - Revisited
Since last writing the initial post on the use, and my overall satisfaction with, the Gaia GPS system I tested out a new system that earned itself a repost. While my overall happiness with the Gaia GPS system has not changed, the GPS system that I utilized on my 2018 hunt in Wyoming was the onX hunting app.
The primary reason for my modification? For a similar pricing structure as the Gaia GPS system, a public land user can get features that are focused primarily for solving the public land hunters needs that Gaia misses, such as:
Waypoint markers in easy to mark, customized formats for your various hunts
Information about private land ownership and public/private land boundaries
Map overlays specific to state game boundaries
Waypoint sharing - primarily useful for sharing with hunting partners
onX has been around for a while so this is really nothing new. I felt compelled to revisit the recommendation after experiencing a hunt this fall of 2018 in Wyoming in an area that had more of a risk of wandering onto privately held land than I encountered when I wrote the first post after hunting an area in Idaho that was void of private land. If having the ability to distinguish between public and private land is important to your hunt - the onX map app will serve you well.
